An airport can be both exciting and perhaps a little scary for the little ones. By taking a few simple precautions, you can ensure a more comfortable journey for both adults and children.

Useful information

  1. Children can travel alone from the age of 5

    Children between 5 and 12 years old traveling alone receive a folder with travel information that they must carry visibly throughout the journey. The rules can vary from company to company, so remember to check with your airline which rules apply to your trip. You will receive the folder from the airline at check-in.

  2. All children must have their own passport

    As a general rule, a passport or ID card with a photo is required to verify identity domestically as well, and alternative methods for ID checks and/or escorting the child vary from airline to airline.

  3. Stroller and car seat are special baggage

    Check in the stroller or seat as usual at the counter or machine, and you will receive a separate luggage tag. Take the luggage to a separate counter for special baggage.

  4. Fill water at the airport

    If you have brought an empty drinking bottle through security and wish to refill it, you can do so at several locations in the terminal at all airports. All refill stations are marked with signs.

Strollers

We offer strollers for free loan after the security check. These can be used right up until the journey begins. 

Food for children

We want the journey to be as pleasant as possible for all our passengers, including the little ones. We have several stores that cater to the family's needs. Whether you need sunscreen, fruit, or something to entertain the children during the trip.

We also have several family-friendly restaurants, and options to buy a child-friendly snack on the way to the plane. The staff is helpful in warming baby food/bottles at all our dining establishments in the terminal.

Stellerom

We have changing tables inside the HC restroom at gate 17 and gate 21, as well as in the check-in hall and arrival hall.

Play area

We have a large play area with several activities that children can enjoy while they wait for the plane to depart. You will find this at gate 19 in the domestic section. You will also find a play area at gate 11 in the international section.

Passport and ID proof

Do all children need their own passport or ID card?

As a general rule, a passport or ID card with a photo is required to verify identity even domestically, and alternative methods for ID checks and/or accompanying the child vary from airline to airline. Make sure to familiarize yourself with the requirements of your airline if you have a child traveling alone.   

Are the children included in the parents' passport?

Children of any age must have their own passport for trips that require this out of Norway, and are no longer included in the parents' passport. See how to apply for a child's passport on the police's website.

Equipment

I will be bringing a stroller and a car seat, how do I send this?

Both strollers and child seats are special baggage! Check in the stroller or seat in the usual way at the counter or kiosk, and you will receive a separate baggage tag.

Take the baggage to a designated counter for special baggage. 

It is possible to purchase bags that protect the stroller/seat; remember to attach the baggage tag clearly visible on the outside of the bag.

Can I use the travel stroller all the way to my gate?
Some travel strollers can be taken as carry-on luggage; check with your airline to see which strollers this applies to. Some airports also have travel strollers available to borrow.
Can I rent a baby crib on the flight?

On longer flights, it may be worth considering renting a baby crib for the little ones, via Airshells which you can find at certain airports.

What is the age limit for traveling alone as a child?

Children can travel alone from the age of 5.

Where do we turn when children are traveling alone?

Can children traveling alone change flights?

If children traveling alone need to change planes, they are taken care of by the airline.

Can I accompany my child all the way to the gate?

A guardian can accompany children traveling alone domestically or abroad all the way to the plane. You will receive an escort pass when you check in. 

If the journey is outside the Schengen area, a guardian can accompany them to the passport control.

Who is responsible for the child during the trip?

The airline is responsible for the child throughout the entire journey.  

What are the rules for the person who will pick up my child?
At check-in, you must specify who will pick up the child. It is important that the person picking up brings identification and is the same person listed.

What kind of food can I bring for my children?

Even though it's not allowed to bring liquids, you can still bring food and drinks necessary for the trip, such as baby food and formula. The containers can hold more than 100 ml and do not need to be packed in a transparent, sealable plastic bag.

Take the baby food out of the carry-on baggage when you go through security. Random samples may be taken of the contents during the security check.

Can I bring drinking bottles for the kids?

Yes, empty drinking bottles are allowed. You can fill water at one of the airport's water stations.  

Do children need to put down their stuffed animals when going through security?

  Yes, everything must be scanned.

Can parents and children go through the X-ray machine together?

No, everyone must go through the machine alone.
